One of our many roles as an association is to inform our members about specific issues that may affect their taxes as well as general information helpful in enhancing the quality of life within our beautiful shore community. Social Media Scholarship Contest open to High School Students: High school students from throughout the state can win scholarship money by entering Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey’s “Species on the Edge 2.0” social media contest. The contest is free to enter, and students have the chance to win more than $1,700 in scholarship money – $1,000, $500 and $250 for first, second and third place, respectively – and other prizes, including a day in the field with a wildlife biologist. Contest applications are due February 28th!

Science Saturdays at the Long Beach Island Foundation  This is the 14th season of Science Saturdays. These informative, interactive presentations, held at the LBIF, focus on the local environment and issues that directly affect our shore community. Science Saturday lectures run from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Foundation’s main building, unless otherwise noted. A schedule of all upcoming Science Saturday presentations is available online at lbifoundation.org/science/science-saturdays-3. Presentations are held every Saturday through April 25, except for April 11.

Games With Friends runs Twice a Month at Long Beach Island Library
The Friends of the Island branch of the Ocean County Library in Surf City Island invite adults to join in a variety of brain-stimulating activities on the first and third Monday of each month, January through May and September through December, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Games with Friends (formerly Brain Games) is held in the meeting room. New members are always welcome to drop in to meet new friends and join the fun. Refreshments are served.

The LBIF Weather Exhibition 2020 runs January 24th to March 28th! The WEATHER Exhibition features artwork depicting weather and the environmental impact it has in New Jersey and the coast. The exhibition includes artwork featuring more than twelve artists and their photographs, drawings, paintings, and mixed media focusing on “Weather” as the central theme. Natural landscapes, coastal habitats and environments, cityscapes, and the man-made create compelling and diverse visual statements.
