Vintage Camping at Barnegat Lighthouse State Park

Barnegat Lighthouse State Park has added a presentation to the free Vintage Camping and Camper Open House held Saturday, Sept. 28, from 1 to 5 p.m. Mod Betty of will give a talk on “Cool Vintage Places in South Jersey,” at noon at the park’s Interpretive Center. Come discover Mom and Pop shops, diners, theaters, roadside stands, all with that stepped-back-in-time feeling, perfect for visiting on a retro roadtrip. Get inspired to explore and find these hidden-in-plain-sight gems that make New Jersey unique.

Author Beth Lennon (known as Mod Betty) is the creator of the website and the Retro Roadmap Roadbook Travel Guide series. Copies of the recently published Retro Roadmap Roadbook of South Jersey will be available for purchase and author signing. Some LBI local businesses and vintage places in the Roadbook include Mustache Bill’s Diner in Barnegat Light, the Holiday Snack Bar in Beach Haven and Flamingo Miniature Golf in Ship Bottom.

Mod Betty’s presentation will be followed by the vintage camper open house, from 1 to 5 p.m. Both are free and open to the public.

Spots are still available for the vintage camping Saturday night for teardrop and airstreams, pre-1980s campers and pre-1992 Volkswagen campers. Registration is $25; contact the park at 609 494-2016. Campers will have use of the large shade shelter for a “pot luck” dinner and enjoy a campfire on the beach from 7 to 9 p.m. The Friends of Barnegat Lighthouse State Park will have the lighthouse open for a free night climb from 7 to 9 p.m.; donations are welcomed.

Campers, if you can’t make it this time, stay tuned for information on the third annual Spring Vintage Camping Overnight planned for May 2020. For more information, call the park office at 609-494-2016 or check the website at or the Facebook page.
