‘Valentine Love Songs’ at the LBI Library Feb. 9

The Long Beach Island branch of the Ocean County Library will host “Valentine Love Songs”, a concert by Michael Corliss and Dennis Linde, on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m. Corliss will sing love songs popularized by Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and other favorites from the Great American Songbook. Linde will provide accompaniment on the piano.

Don’t be surprised if you hear a few jokes along the way, as Corliss enjoys interacting with the audience.

“I’ve always liked making people laugh, so I’ll probably add a little comedy,” he said.

One of his first appearances was last year at Fantasy Island Amusement Park in Beach Haven, where he works in security.

“During the holidays, I sang at the Kapler’s Pharmacy Christmas celebration,” he said. “That was real cool, with carriage rides and ice sculptures. I’m hoping I can do that again.”

Corliss, who is backed by prerecorded tracks, said his repertoire is mainly songs of the Rat Pack Era – Sinatra, Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.

During the summer, Corliss regularly performed at Scojo’s in Surf City, Woodies Drive-in in Ship Bottom and the Sand Bar at the Engleside in Beach Haven.

“Dennis and I have been playing at the Grapevine (in Tuckerton),” he said. “We work well together ,and we’re looking to do more gigs.”

Linde provides piano music at Buckalew’s Restaurant and Tavern and is also organist for the Kynett Methodist Church, both in Beach Haven.

“This summer, Mike and I are looking to play at the Spray Beach Inn,” he said.
