The adage that time is money is true when it comes to the Lighthouse International Film Festival.
The 11th edition of the festival will be held on LBI from June 6 through 9, which may seem like an eternity from now but which will be here before you know it. And if you want to submit an entry in the festival’s numerous categories – U.S. narrative features, international narrative features, U.S. documentaries, international documentaries, U.S. shorts or international shorts both narrative and documentary, TV and Web series, high school shorts, surf films and virtual reality – the clock is tick, tick, ticking.
You’ve already missed the Dec. 25 early bird deadline and the regular deadline of Feb. 4 is just weeks away. True, there’s a March 4 late deadline and an April 4 extended deadline, but the longer you wait, the more you will have to pay to enter. For example, the cost of an early bird feature length film entry was $35 ($31.50 for “Gold Members,” to be explained later). That increased to $40 ($36 for Gold) for the regular deadline and will run you $45 ($40.50) for the late deadline and $60 ($54) for the extended deadline.
All entries must be entered on FilmFreeway, an online clearinghouse that allows filmmakers to submit their work to any of over 7,000 of the world’s top film festivals. That’s where FilmFreeway Gold kicks in: serious filmmakers who submit their films in multiple festivals receive 10 to 50 percent submission discounts.
The rules for LIFF submissions can be found on the FilmFreeway website.
The festival is also still accepting submissions through April 4 for its “Write By The Beach” retreat for female filmmakers. It is a program that provides a week of inspiration at a beach house in the week leading up to the festival for women who have at least one credit as the primary screenwriter of a short of feature-length film, with priority in selection given to female screenwriters who are currently working on a full-length screenplay(s). Once again, the rules for Write By The Beach applications can be found on the LIFF page on FilmFreeway.
