Beach Haven — Promised Land, which bills itself at the “Ultimate Springsteen Tribute Band,” will be performing at Beach Haven’s Surflight Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct.19. The core members of Promised Land, Kenny English and Mike and Rob Petillo, have played together since they were 15 years old. They started off as part of a band called ArthurKill and during the summer of 1990 opened for E Street Band member Nils Lofgren at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. Injected with the vibes of a Jersey Shore summer, they decided to form Promised Land.
“Springsteen and South Side (Johnny) shined the light on rock music for us,” said English. “The shows Bruce put on, the way he entertains and sings with emotion. The power of the E Street Band. The sounds of the horns in South Side’s music, there was nothing else like it. Then Li’l Steven came out with three great records in the ’80s, and we were hooked! The music was and still is the soundtrack of our lives.”
An eight-piece band that includes the ArthurKill Horns, Promised Land performs all the classic Springsteen, South Side Johnny, and Li’l Steven songs and can even throw some Bon Jovi hits into the mix. So it’s no wonder that Promised Land has played many an iconic New Jersey club including The Tradewinds, The Wonder Bar, Headliners, The Green Room, Club Bene, The Saint, The Rocking Horse, Fast Lane and Birch Hill on top of the Stone Pony.
Now they’re coming to Surflight, and for a good cause to boot. The concert will benefit Knights For Christ the Healer Inc. an organization that advocates for veterans and their families. Monies raised will be used to award partial scholarships to students whose parents or guardians honorably served in the U.S. military and to fund its veterans programs.
Tickets are $37.50 and may be purchased online at surflight.org, by phone at 609-492-9477 or at the box office, located at 201 Engleside Ave.
