Science Saturdays are back, beginning Jan. 14. For the 11th consecutive winter, the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences is tackling scientific, environmental and sustainability issues that directly affect our coastal community with its informative and interactive lectures.
The presentations run from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Foundation’s main building in Loveladies.
This coming Saturday, Capt. Alex Majewski of Lighthouse Sportfishing LLC, a Science Saturday co-chair, will present “Fish of Barnegat Bay.”
“Capt. Alex, as he is commonly known, will introduce you to the fish species that call Barnegat Bay home, from striped bass, bluefish and fluke to many others,” said LBIF Outreach and Development Coordinator Amy Carreño. “Discover the diversity of fish living in Barnegat Bay from an ichthyologist’s perspective. Capt. Alex will teach you species identification, fish taxonomy and anatomy.”
Admission to Science Saturday lectures – organized by the LBIF Science Committee – is free for Foundation members. A $5 donation per person is requested from all other attendees.
Breakfast treats will be provided by Little Bite of Italy in Surf City.
