Join Tina Mueller, a co-owner-operator of Sassafras Hill Farm in Barnegat, as she discusses farming in the Pinelands at the March 30 Science Saturday. The presentation will run from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the main building of the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences in Loveladies.
“What is so unique about our Pinelands soil and ecosystem?” queries LBIF membership and community coordinator Jillian Schratz. “Take a visual tour of Sassafras Hill Farm and learn about the process and seasonality of growing food from concept to consumption, creating a self-sustaining ecosystem, the role that bees play on the farm and the importance of farming to carbon sequestration. Become more familiar with the terms organic, naturally grown and biodynamic.”
Science Saturdays feature local experts tackling the scientific, environmental and sustainability issues that affect our shore community and the surrounding waters. Additional lectures are scheduled through April 27, except for April 20. A schedule of all presentations is available online at lbifoundation.org/science/science-saturdays-3.
Admission to Science Saturday – organized by the LBIF Science Committee – is free for Foundation members. A $5 donation per person is requested from all other attendees.
LBIF is located at 120 Long Beach Blvd. in Loveladies.
