Poets Studio Date Moved to July 12 at LBI Library

Surf City — The Poet’s Studio holds its monthly meeting on Friday, July 12, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Long Beach Island branch of the Ocean County Library in Surf City. The group normally meets on the first Thursday of each month, but the date was changed due to the branch being closed July 4.

The first half hour is devoted to discussing some aspect of the art of writing of poetry. On July 12, the presenter will be Jeanne Sutton.

“Let an ordinary object speak to you in an intimate way is the theme,” she said. “Get personal, record your ‘conversation’ in poetic form. Ask yourself where the poem came from.”

Susan Cummings, group moderator, said the remainder of the meeting is devoted to sharing original poems. During this portion, poets provide copies of an original poem to each group member.

“The original poem is read out loud by the poet, and if time permits, it is read again out loud by someone other than the poet,” she said. “Following the reading of the poem, the group provides feedback to the poet.”
