Ocean Mental Health Services will hold a grand opening at its new location in Manahawkin on Wednesday, Nov. 13, from noon to 2 p.m. at 712 East Bay Ave., Suite 21. Light refreshments will be served.
“This is our 60th anniversary,” said Kim Veith, adult clinical services director. “We started out as a small counseling center in Toms River. Today, there are locations in Toms River, Manahawkin, Brick Township and Bayville.”
Veith said OMHS has been in Manahawkin for approximately 30 years, starting out on East Bay Avenue and then moving to its most recent location on Nautilus Drive. Among the four locations, she said, OMHS sees an average of 5,000 to 7,000 patents annually.
Services offered include crisis assessment and treatment planning, crisis prevention planning, symptom management and skill training, family support and involvement in the recovery process, cultural awareness and sensitivity, co-occurring services, linkage to benefits and entitlements and linkage to community resources. The resources include but are not limited to housing, board of social services, outpatient services, ongoing therapy and psychiatry, medical providers, substance abuse services and self-help/support groups.
“With the new location in Manahawkin, we have everything on one floor,” she said. “This helps us especially with our ability to see walk-ins.”
To be eligible for services, one must be over the age of 18, be assessed as able to safely receive treatment in an outpatient setting and have a diagnosable mental illness or substance use disorder.
“Over the last few years, we’ve expanded our services for people with substance abuse and other medical issues,” Veith said.
Hours of operation are Monday though Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, call 609-597-5327.
