‘Messiah’ Sing, Carols at Holy Innocents’ Church

Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church in Beach Haven holds its annual Handel’s “Messiah” sing on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 4 p.m. Ellen Dondero, minister of music, said the event is held in partnership with the New Jersey Chamber Singers, who will feature soloists. The program covers the Christmas portion of the oratorio as well as the Hallelujah Chorus.

“If you are a singer, you are invited to bring a Messiah score and sing along with the chorus on this familiar work,” said Dondero. Additional scores will be available. “If you would rather just listen, join us in the special seating for audience members who choose not to sing.”

Dondero said in addition, the chamber singers will perform selections featuring holiday favorites.

The church plans a service of lessons and carols on Friday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. The service features traditional Christmas readings and carol singing, which will include congregational singing featuring “Once In Royal David’s City,” “O Come All Ye Faithful” and traditional and contemporary choral music by the choir of Holy Innocents’.

A reception follows both events. For more information, call the church at 609-492-7571.
