Surf City — For the past 12 weeks, the first-person series “Can You Beat Biggy?” provided a look at miniature golf in a whole new, entertaining way, as I took on the proverbial world – those who visit Long Beach Island throughout the summer as well as many locals hoping to score a victory against a guy they sometimes see out in the community – in challenge matches at each mini golf course on LBI.
Well, the fun may be over for the summer of 2019, but there’s more to come later this year. It’s my pleasure to announce that The Sand Trap in Ship Bottom has agreed to open its gates on Dec. 7, the date of the annual Christmas parade, for a one-day “Can You Beat Biggy?” tournament, which will be played with a charity or two in mind.
Precise details still have to be worked out, but for certain a food drive to benefit a local food pantry will be among the varying ways anybody can participate, so be prepared to set aside a few non-perishable items as the date gets closer. We want those in need to have plenty of food available as the winter arrives.
As for other ways this charitable event can benefit the local community, please email any ideas to firstname.lastname@example.org until Sept. 30. I won’t promise or guarantee which ideas I’ll utilize, but all will be considered.
Other than that, for now, please mark your calendars for Dec. 7, tell a friend or neighbor, and keep a watch on The SandPaper and our various social media channels for further details, probably to be announced by mid-October. See you at The Sand Trap soon!
