Eagleswood Township, NJ — Calloways, on Route 9 in Eagleswood, returned on Dec. 10 with new updates and former owners. After a brief stint as the Eagleswood Inn, Calloways is back with original owners, the Rossiter family. Christopher Rossiter said that after a lease purchase deal this past summer did not go as planned, his family decided to take back the reins.

“We are very excited about being back and have some really fun plans for the place,” Rossiter said on the weekend before the re-opening. “We’re bringing in more of the local feel – a bit rustic, with nods to the history of the area throughout the bar and restaurant, and a menu full of old favorites, along with a few new ideas I think everyone will enjoy.”

Patrons will find a new bar surface and updated restrooms.

That’s structural. What are really attention-getters are the American flag made from 400 Budweiser beer cans, three mounted moose heads and a wall full of great drinking quotes.

“Everywhere you look there’s something to catch your eye and that brings a smile or laugh,” said Rossiter, who is particularly proud of his marlin mounted on the wall – that fishing trip with his pal Ernie is no doubt good bar conversation.

Bringing smiles is what it’s about for Rossiter and his family.

“The locals know and love Calloways – we’re the comfortable place to celebrate at, whether it’s your baby shower or your reunion or your wedding. We offer affordable fun, food and festivities. That part isn’t going to change,” Chris Rossiter said.

The staff that has remained through the last six months say they are excited about the return of the original name and owners. “It’s great to have the Rossiters back; they were the reason that so many of the staff have remained loyal for years. It’s like a family reunion,” said Bree Anderson, who has worked in the establishment since she was 14 busing tables; now in her 20s, she tends bar.

Speaking of families, the Rossiters are bringing a few exciting new Family-Friendly Specials to the restaurant, added longtime manager Michael Crimi. One is Italian Sunday Dinner: Starting at 1 p.m., patrons can choose from 10 Italian entrees for only $9.95. Other family-friendly specials after 4 p.m. include kid’s meals on Wednesdays for only $1.99 and Free Token Fridays, where five free arcade tokens are served up with every “Little Kiddo’s” meal.

There are plenty of specials for the adults, too: Martini Monday, Burgers and Brewsday Tuesday, $3 White Claw Wednesday, Pizza & Wine Throwback Thursday.

On Fridays and Saturdays, $2 Titos are sure to draw customers in. The new weekend brunch menu has $5 Paul Bunyan Bloody Marys and Monster Mimosas, which sound like a truly great start to any weekend morning.

The brunch menu consists of breakfast standards such as French toast, waffles and create-your-own omelets, and some creative options such as a playful take on eggs Benedict – Southern chicken and waffles style.

Chef Bart said the new menu overall is “a great mix of old Calloways favorites and some new items that we think folks will enjoy, nothing too fancy – it’s really a comfort menu.”

Owners and staff invite, “So stop in and check out the exciting things happening at Calloways. The Ugly Sweater Party and Contest takes place Friday, Dec. 20, but don’t wait till then. The moose need to meet the locals.”

Keep an eye on the restaurant’s Facebook page, Callowaysnj for more details still to come. “We even hear that an outdoor fireplace is in the works and coming soon!”
