Local Auditions Scheduled for March at Surflight

If you’re an actor, singer, dancer or any combination of the three and live within a reasonable driving distance from Beach Haven, this notice could be refrigerator magnet material.

Surflight Theatre will hold local auditions for its 2019 season for both adults/teens and children ages 6 through 12 on Saturday and Sunday, March 9 and 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days. The adult and teen auditions will be held in the Beach Haven theater; children will audition at the adjacent Show Place Ice Cream Parlour.

Adults and teens should submit a headshot and resume and be ready to sing 16 bars of a song of their choice, bringing sheet music in the appropriate key. An accompanist will be provided. They should also bring the sheet music for at least one second contrasting piece in case they are asked to sing it. Bring clothes appropriate for movement or dance, including tap shoes if you tap, because you may be asked to read or dance.

Those interested in auditioning for only the theater’s fall plays should prepare a monologue.

These auditions are for locals only, with locals defined as having their own housing in a commutable distance from the theater and having reliable transportation to attend rehearsals and performances. Those who do not meet those criteria should instead attend the New York City open call set for March 19 with callbacks set for the next day. Surflight does not accept video submissions.

Visit the theater’s website at surflight.org to see Surflight’s 2019 season.

Children will be seen by appointment only.

Child performers are needed for several Surflight main stage productions including “Holiday Inn,” which will rehearse from May 22 to June 5 before running from June 6-16, “Matilda,” with rehearsals beginning in early July before opening on Aug. 6 and running through Aug. 25, and the “’Tis the Season” holiday show Dec. 5-15. Various roles in Surflight children’s theater productions – Lost Boys in “Peter Pan,” Munchkins in “The Wizard of O,” and all roles in “Aladdin Jr.” – are also available. Kids may also audition for the “Mini Showplace Experience” on March 9 and 10.

To see the requirements for children performers and to learn how to schedule an audition, visit surflight.org and click on “Employment.” That is also the site to visit if you are a performer over 18 years of age wishing to join the singing and dancing waitstaff at the Show Place. Requirements for a Show Place audition submission can be found on the website, again by clicking on “Employment.” One basic requirement can be shared here – you must be available from May 13 through Labor Day or at least “very late August.”

Questions can be directed by email to SurflightAuditions@gmail.com.
