To the Editor:
On behalf of the many dog lovers who visit the Barnegat Light Dog Park, we want to thank Mayor Kirk Larson, the borough council, the borough maintenance crew and the residents of Barnegat Light for maintaining this wonderful facility.
We are there every morning from 8 to 9 a.m. with our two puppies: Charlie, who is 6 months old, and Sally, who is 4 months old. This friendly park, often with 15 to 20 dogs on site, has been an important part of their development. They get terrific exercise romping with the other dogs, they have been completely socialized, and they love the park. The $30 annual fee is a small price to pay for such a wonderful park.
In addition to the benefits to the dogs, we enjoy the camaraderie and friendly chats with the many new friends we have made over the years at the dog park, some coming from as far away as Tuckerton. It is one of the highlights of our summers.
We have been residents of High Bar Harbor for 38 years and feel a special kinship with Barnegat Light and its small businesses, which we frequent regularly.
The vast majority of visitors to the dog park are responsible dog owners who watch their dogs carefully and clean up after them. If one owner does not see his or her pet doing its business, another owner picks it up.
Thank you, Barnegat Light, for making our lives – and those of our dogs – happier.
John and Diane Danzeisen, High Bar Harbor
