The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences will soon offer access to a greater range of films via a new collaboration with The ShowRoom Cinema of Asbury Park.
The first joint project of the two organizations will be screenings of the 2019 Oscar-nominated short films – documentary, animated and live action – which will be shown at LBIF on Feb. 21, Feb. 22 and Feb. 23, respectively. The Academy Awards take place on Feb. 24.
Tickets will be available through EventBrite, with limited quantities at the door.
Michael Sodano and Nancy Sabino founded The ShowRoom together in April 2009, “marking the first time in 30 years that a movie house had appeared on the streets of Asbury Park,” said Jillian Schratz, LBIF membership and community coordinator. “The free-form cinema is prized by patrons as much for its indie films as it is for added attractions. Part community center, part performance space, mostly screening room, it thrives on diverse but ‘themed’ events combined into a single multimedia experience.
“The partnership with the LBIF extends their mission to a new audience, bringing high-quality, provocative films to the LBI community.”
LBIF Executive Director Daniella Kerner noted, “This is a fabulous experience for the residents and visitors to Long Beach Island to be able to enjoy exceptional films. Viewing films on a large screen is a much more moving experience for viewers, and we are delighted to be able to offer this to our membership and to the regional public. The films we plan to show demonstrate the highest level of filmmaking. We are grateful to The ShowRoom for partnering with us and look forward to an exciting and ongoing relationship.”
And as Sabino remarked, “The ShowRoom Cinema is pleased to partner with the Long Beach Island Foundation for the Arts and Sciences with an offering of our first-run, independent films. My partner, Mike Sodano, and I are eager to extend our brand, and outreach from Daniella Kerner at LBIF allows us to move forward in our mission to present relevant and provocative movies and events that engage audiences for a memorable experience.”
