A good south wind is bringing Kitty Hawk Kites to town – to Barnegat Light, and soon.

The company got off the ground in the Outer Banks in 1974 and now also has locations in Virginia Beach, along with Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., and Atlantic Beach, N.C., among others.

Barnegat Light will be the company’s newest site next month, at 701 Broadway. The building held The Islanders’ Store for more than 40 years until it closed in November 2018.

Life Is Good will occupy the other section of the store, according to the marketing department for Kitty Hawk Kites.

“Kitty Hawk Kites is excited to open two stores at the old Islanders’ Store in Barnegat Light in April 2019,” the company told The SandPaper this week. “One side of the shop will be merchandised by Kitty Hawk Kites and one side will be merchandised by Life is Good.”

Kitty Hawk Kites specializes in “fun, quality products such as kites, toys, gifts, apparel, adventure gear and more.”

“Kitty Hawk Kites is partners with the Life Is Good company, which is headquartered in Boston, Mass. This year Life Is Good celebrates its 25th anniversary and continues to focus on spreading the power of optimism through its simple, timeless wisdom with apparel and merchandise that spreads good vibes.”

It’s no wonder Barnegat Light was chosen, with its vast windswept beaches in view of the majestic attraction of Barnegat Lighthouse. Many residents here are familiar with the Kitty Hawk Kites name already, visiting OBX shores in their own north end’s off-season.
