Barnegat Light — For people wanting a panoramic view of Long Beach Island, there’s no better place than the top of Barnegat Lighthouse. And on Saturday, May 25, the Friends of Barnegat Lighthouse State Park organization holds its first night climb of the season, from 7 to 9 p.m. The event is free, but donations to the organization are appreciated.

The Friends suggest participants arrive early, since a limited number of people can go up at the same time. The night climb ends promptly at 9. The lighthouse is 172 feet high and contains 217 steps.

Friends trustee Charlotte Bank said the group has hosted the climb for eight years.

“The sunsets are magnificent,” she said. “People will see the Island in a whole new way.”
