Stafford Township — Have a holiday tree that takes the cake? Submit photos of a beautifully decorated tree to a local contest to help raise funds for the Stafford NJ Pride/ Robert T. Ominski Scholarship Fund.
The scholarship recognizes Southern Regional High School seniors who have overcome adversity (e.g. learning disability, cognitive or physical challenges, grief, bullying) to achieve their goals and plan to attend a two- or four-year college or trade school.
The Christmas Tree Decorating Contest is the brainchild of Lori Wyrsch of Manahawkin, whose dad was Bob Ominski and whose son is Billy Wyrsch, both of whom are inspiring examples of people who don’t give up.
“For the last five years of his life (Bob) battled multiple forms of cancer. He faced each new challenge with courage and strength and never lost hope. … Billy is working to erase bullying and build confidence within our community for LGBTQ youth.”
The contest is open to individuals, families and businesses. Entry fees are $25 for individuals and families, and $50 for businesses. Make checks payable to RTOPride and mail to 993 Barnacle Dr., Manahawkin.
Entry deadline for businesses is Nov. 24, and the participant list will be sent out before Black Friday. Deadline for individuals and families is Nov. 30. Send photos to email@example.com.
Trees may be any height, color, style or theme. Residential trees will be judged online, and commercial trees will be judged in person, between Dec. 1 and 31. Winners will be announced Jan. 2.
